This company presents itself as an independant subscription agent representing more than 500 publications. On the back of the "invoice" it states: "As agents we do not necessarily have direct relationships with the publishers or the publications that we service. The offer that you received is just an offer not a bill or invoice and you are under no obligation to either buy or renew at this time or any time in the future. All orders are fully cancelable and if your order has not yet been processed we will gladly refund 100% of your payment. Howerver, once we have processed your order a $9.00 processing fee will apply plus our costs to submit your order. Please allow six to twelve weeks for your order to begin." On the front of the "invoice" they provide a telephone number, mailing and email addresses.
I made the first installment payment for a 3-year subscription on 2/25/08 and the check just cleared the bank on 5/15/08. I made the second installment on 6/23/08 and the check obviously has not yet cleared. I just recently received a notice and invoice from Western Horseman saying my subscription has expired.
After speaking with Western Horseman about my efforts to renew my subscription, they suggested calling the phone number of the company to ask for a refund. I got a ring-around-the-rosey message of what is already on the back of the "invoice" - never an option to speak with a real live person. Western Horseman said that they were aware of this company and its fraudulent practices, and, that if I didn't have any luck contacting the company to get my money back, they would see what they could do to help.
