Ripping customers off and know it

AT&T has sent me to collections for an amount they owe to me. They charged me for a service that I cancelled 2 months ago!!!

AT&T offers a service to it's customers that allows them to keep their phone numbers even if the # needs to be suspended for a time period. They make it sound so simple and easy. My husband spent over 6 hours on the phone trying to get this serivce set up and also changing my DSL to dial up so I could keep my email address. We were building a house and stayed with relatives for 5 months. Once we were ready to reconnect everything we called and started our phone service and transfered our internet back to DSL.

It has been 2.5 months now and we are on the phone almost daily trying to get things straightened out. Even though they connected our phone number back to our house, they are continuing to charge us for the suspension of our phone #. When we call and talk to the "wonderful" customer service reps, one will tell us it is taken care of and that we can get a refund. Then in the mail the next day we get a late notice. We call and that person says it is too late to request a refund and we are just out of luck, but he will disconnect the service and we should not be billed again.

Needless to say we keep getting bills over and over and we call over and over and no one can fix this issue. Not only that, they disconnected our internet this week and deleted my email addresses because I noticed they were still charging me for dial up on my credit card and the DSL on the phone bill. There is no way someone would use both. It took me over 4 hours to get my email addresses back and the internet working again.

"The straw that has broken the camel's back" is that we received a collection notice today from AT&T for the $40 that they told us we did not owe on the suspended number... After we reconnected the phone line. We are paying for the phone service and make payments on time regularly. But they just can't get their facts straight and take care of things like large companies should. I can't believe they are the leaders in this industry and they can't even get this straight. Charging me for something that just does not make any sense... How can you pay a phone bill on a line you are calling them on and then have a bill for the same # that they have as a suspended #!!! Why do they continually charge me twice for services that should have been cancelled MONTHS ago. How can they send me to collections on something they owe back to me???
