I purchased a laptop from a seller, Dubyn Williams, who had an auction going on Ebay, but no bids. I asked him if he would take less for the item, through the auction question area and he said yes. I sent the $ immediately via paypal. Williams did not stop the auction, and people started to bid on the laptop. I sent numerous emails to the seller telling him I had already paid for the laptop, so he better end the auction, and explain to the bidders.
When the auction ended, he had a new buyer for more money, and sold it to that buyer. Meanwhile, I have paid for a laptop, which I don't have. I contacted the seller, and he said that ebay and paypal took out so much fees, that he did not have the $600. To refund to me. Williams has sold over 30 things on ebay, so he knows about the fees that Ebay and Paypal charge. I told him when he got paid for the computer from the new seller, to send the money. He said he would, but did not.
I reported him to Ebay, and paypal. Ebay said they restricted him, but they can not tell me how. They suggested that I make a police report both in my town, and in the seller's town, and also with www.ic3. Gov, which I did. I also filed a dispute with Paypal.
The seller then indicated to paypal that he would give me a refund, but paypal made me wait over 2 weeks to see if the seller had the money in his bank account, which he did not. They put the request through to his bank twice. They then ruled the dispute in my favor, however, I have no money refunded. Paypal said they will try to get the money from him.
Lucky for me, I am in law enforcement, and contacted an officer in his local police dept., gave him the info, and after about 5 emails, got a police case number. I found the seller's address, parents name and phone on the internet, and gave them to the officer. The officer called the seller's home, and his father (seller is 27) said that his son told him that he had given me a refund. I explained to the officer that the refund did not go through, because there was no money in the bank account. Now the officer is following up... I told the officer to explain, that my next step is to file suit, and it will be for the $600., plus an airline ticket from L.A. Round trip, plus 2 days hotel, food, rental car, and distress, which will come to alot more than $600.
The seller's father wanted to know if I wanted the computer (don't know if ebay stopped him from selling it to the high bidder of the auction), but I said no, I am afraid that he may have screwed it up inside or something. I don't trust him at all.
I have to wait and see what the police in S.C. Can do for me, or then sue this person. Paypal drug it's feet, and have not helped at all.
Paypal makes you feel safe, but you are not at all. So pay attention: after using paypal for 5 years, they did not help me with this fraud. I have had to do all the leg work and report making myself. They give you the same pat answers when you call them on the phone. It is a real joke. Now ebay requires you to accept paypal, but on my listings, i write, no paypal. I will never deal with them again.
I am out $600 and they don't care at all. The seller got away with fraud, and paypal let them. Unbelievable.
What is worse, is Dubyn Williams does not care that he committed fraud, even tho' I told him, I would file a complaint with the police and the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
If it ends up I have to fly to South Carolina to sue this guy, I will do it, just for the sake of justice. Dubyn Williams needs to be taught a lesson. He lives in a $400,000. Home with his parents, yet he can't come up with my $600.
