I submitted a rebate to Office Depot in January; I had delivered it to the post office on 1/4/08 and had the postal clerk stamp the envelope. I just realized that I never heard anything from the company and went on their website and checked and the listing stated that rebate denied due to post mark and no qualifying purchase listed on receipt.
Now I have contacted the rebate center and they advised that they sent a letter to me showing the reason for the refusal, but I never received that letter, when I asked what address they have on file, they repeated my address without a unit number. However, the customer service rep. Then looked at the rebate form and said the address is my correct address with the unit number, conveniently omitted when they mailed the letter.
I subsequently asked them to send me a copy of the envelope showing the late postmark and they stated that it is their policy not to send that to the consumer. Now, isn't that funny how the one document that they say they have, that can prove thier case is not able to be sent anywhere.
I am determined to get my 200.00 from Office Depot and I will continue writing and calling until someone responds to me; and I will NEVER shop at a Office Depot again.
An interesting twist is that I submitted a rebate to Hewlett Packard for $70.00 which also had the same time limit of 45days and it was mailed after the computer rebate (due to me not having the entire rebate form - becuase office Depot conveniently only gives you the 1st page of the HP Rebate) and they have honored their rebate and I have received my check and already negotiated it, with no issues at all.
