My then separated wife opened up a credit card account in my name with Capital One. She obviously did not pay the bill and it ended up on my credit report. I notified Capital One and they would not give me the account number. I asked where the bill had been going and they would not tell me. I asked to have the billing changed to my address and I could not because I did not have an account number. During all this, late charges have accumulated and it is now in collection and I never had an opportunity to pay the debt, stop the charges or anything. End result, I have Capital One debt on my credit history and no way to get it removed.
Why should I have to pay all these misc. And late charges. The original debt was $300 and now $1000.
I understand I am responsible since she was my wife, however Capital One should not be sending my statement somewhere else when my address is and has always been the same. I never received a statement and I still don't know what the account number is.
