I paid $500 for this law firm to provide due diligence for a Mexican real estate purchase. Due diligence is a process of acquiring objective and reliable information, generally on a person or a company, prior to a specific event or decision. It is usually a systematic research effort, which is used to gather the critical facts and descriptive information which are most relevant to the making of an informed decision on a matter of importance.
Peyton & Associates (Law Mexico) supposedly made a phone call to an uninformed, unqualified individual who told them wrong information about my situation. They then passed that erroneous information to me and said they had done the job I hired them for. There was no further investigation even though I told them I knew they did not have their facts correct. They have not responded to repeated contact attempts. They took my $500 and left me feeling totally ripped off. Apparently they do not understand what due diligence means.
I knew they were wrong, so I hired another attorney who had recently been admitted to practice law in Mexico, a rookie. This inexperienced person was able to guide me through the process of the real estate purchase. The best part beyond getting the transaction done: the total fee for his services was only $550.
Before contacting them I researched the web for attorneys specializing in Mexican real estate purchases by American citizens. Do not believe the website propaganda for Law Mexico or Peyton & Associates. Do not be swayed by the books Mr. Peyton has written about Mexican law. I have lots of experience with American real estate attorneys and have never received such inadequate service. Beware. Dont expect you will be treated any differently.
