I saw an apartment that Eli Gindi had showed me on August 14 in the meat packing district. I had told Eli that I loved the apartment but that it was ultimately my 2nd choice and I would hear back from my 1st choice in the next day or two.
Eli told me I should apply for the apartment because it was not going to remain available for long and if I needed to change my mind for any reason, it wouldn't be a problem to just cancel my application and I would not be charged the $50 application fee.
I submitted my application through the PrestonNY.com website and about an hour later, I heard back from my first choice telling me I was approved. I called Eli immediately on his cell phone and asked him to please disregard my application and make sure I was not charged the $50 fee.
On August 17 I was charged the $50 fee from On Site (the company that runs their credit checks).
I called Eli on August 20th when I noticed the charge and left a voice mail. Eli never called back.
I called Eli again on August 27th, A WEEK LATER, and threatened to take appropriate action if I did not hear from him. Lo and behold, he calls me back telling me it was the landlord who submitted the credit check and because it was run, there was nothing that could be done.
How the landlord told On Site to run the credit check, I do not know, since I submitted the application through PrestonNY's website!
Eli just forgot to cancel the application and would not own up to it!
PrestonNY is unprofessional in just passing the blame off to one of the landlords they represent.
You'd think they'd provide better service for charging 15% of your annual rent for thier broker's fee! They have complete and utter disregard for people's time and money.
Do not use them to help you find an apartment.
