I was in the midst of getting an apartment at a Co-op. We needed to move out by the end of the month, but we're being toyed with for 3 weeks, to a point where we were running out of time.
After 3 weeks of dealing with the actual owners, our application arrived to the management company on Friday. On this day, the owner told us to stop emailing her (we were simply following up on some open topics) and that the process could take an additional 3 weeks to process everything. We told her 3 weeks was too long, she did not respond.
We heard nothing from her on Monday, nothing was done with our application
On Tuesday our checks were cashed. We told her we wanted to back out after lack of progression with our application. She told us she was not refunding our money (even though nothing was done with our application). The amount was $430. $80 of that was for the credit check, which was claimed to have been done. We never saw this credit report, even though we requested to see it. A complete lie on their part. The remaining $350 was for an application fee, which would have been fine but nothing was done with our application. It was never processed, thus we should have received a refund.
