We contracted to move through National Moving Network (NMN) from CA to TX. My husband is impressed by Stuart Sheinfeld at NMN who has supposedly given us a coupon discount and has quoted us $1850 for the move and that he can and will deliver in 5 to 7 days from the pick up date.
I e-mail him to ask what happens if we go over his estimate, Stuart calls me back 2 days later and tells me that this rarely happens and he over estimates. Usually his clients get a refund. This sounds great to us because a UHAUL was going to cost $1850 with us doing all the loading and driving.
Not wanting to do the long distance with a 4 month old baby, we feel like we should hire professional movers and mistakenly hire NMN and AY Transport as our movers. We pay the $525 towards the move as a deposit, and the movers from AY show up when they are scheduled on August 12. AY Transport picks up the load and charges us $565 more in packing supplies and $120 for walking 100 feet. (We did not know that a mattress & lamps had to be in a special box.)
Not wanting to pay for the extra boxes & weight for many of our items (i.E. Microwave, kitchen table, 4 chairs, stereo) my husband gives these things to the movers. The movers still ask for a tip when they are done.
August 15 AY calls and says the load weighs more than the estimate and it will cost an additional $2,200 for transport. Now the $1850 move is costing $3400! We would have sold many of our things and moved ourselves if we had known. We are told the items will be delivered on Monday or Tuesday August 19/20. At this point, I am already in Houston and I just want my things so I can get my newborn on a schedule and get our new life in Texas together.instead I get my hopes up week after week expecting a delivery and continue to get lied to at AY. I have never dealt with worse people on the phone. They just blatantly lie to you every week.
August 19 I call AY and I am told it will be here Wednesday or Thursday August 21/22. The reason is due to the fact that I said we couldn't move in until August 18 so they didn't put it on the first truck out here.
August 21 I call AY again and I am told there was a delay in a driver getting back from the east coast and that our stuff will "definitely" be delivered on Friday or Saturday August 23/24.
August 24 I call AY again and I am told that our stuff will be here on Tuesday or Wednesday August 27/28. My husband follows up with a call and asks him if he is sure because he has had to change airline tickets etc. Numerous times. He assures him it will be delivered on these dates.
August 27 I call AY again and I am told "the truck is being loaded" with our items. I ask why it is just leaving when you have told me it would be delivered days ago. They say they were mistaken and I was misinformed. They say "the truck is coming straight to Texas with no other stops and will be here on Friday or Saturday August 30/31 GUARANTEED" but they won't put that in writing. What do I do when Saturday comes and there is still no delivery. I have a 4 month old baby and an empty house. Everything I own is in these movers hands. I want to go beat these movers up! I wouldn't care so much if they were just honest instead of giving me the runaround. I am worried that I won't get my things now and if I do what shape they will be in. I would like to talk to Bill in San Antonio. Maybe our things are on the same truck and they will be delivered this weekend. If not, which I suspect is the case, we can take some action against AY jointly.
