MCI Worldcom ripoff business from hell

I had an account with Worldcom Wireless starting 12/31/99, account # 39-00112692 that was for one year. Worldcom was sending it's bills 4 to 5 months after the billing periods. On 03/02/01, I called to tell them I was ending the service (I was 3 months over the minimum 12 months). I contacted Justin at EXT 6138 who said it would end on 03/09/01 (1-800-254-8991). I continued to pay the bills as they were for previous billing periods. I mistakenly payed a bill for a billing period AFTER my termination date as I thought they were still playing catch up.

I saw this and called Andrew at EXT 6575 on 08/14/01 to straighten this out. He confirmed that I was deactivated as there were no calls or activity on the number even though Justin forgot to put it in the computer. He gave me a confirmation number of 1844586 for the deactivation and a confirmation number of 1844956 for the credit that he said I would eventually get and could use to get a refund.

Then his manager jumped in and said no, that I have a 2 year contract according to their computer. I ended up having to fax my contract 3 times before someone would acknowledge that it was for one year. This happened later that day when I talked to Debbie EXT 6045 who helped and then gave me a confirmation number 0f 1848194 for the check I was supposed to get. After not getting anything,

I called Fara at EXT 1227 on 09/26/01 who told me I have to wait for a bill showing the $45.89 credit and when I get it, I can request the refund. She couldn't give me a confirmation number. As I still did not get anything, on 01/31/02, I called Dave (no EXT #), who gave me another confirmation number of 3672459 stating I would get the check soon.

On 03/08/02, I called and was directed to Accounting and was told that the check was cancelled. They said I was only to be given a credit for my over payment and they would not give me my money back. I explained that this was not a good will credit but a refund of an overpayment they caused by their backlogged billing and the failure of their employee (Justin) to enter the account closure in the computer. He (unknown name) began getting annoyed and kept telling me I am getting nothing. I asked to speak to a supervisor but, he would not produce one.
He said one would call me withing 24 hours.

I did not hear back by Monday (03/11/02) so I called again and talked to Mike EXT6064 who said my record shows a supervisor request and that one would call me within another 24 hours. As of Wednesday (03/13/02) I had heard nothing. I have spent about 8 hours on hold listening to their insane music and spent no less than 4 hours talking to attendants. I have found out that I am not the only person they are screwing. My girlfriend was passed from one rude customer service rep to another. None of my friends are willing to sign with them either.

I finally filed a complaint with the FCC on 03/09/02.By 04/25/02, I had heard nothing and the FCC said MCI didn't get back to them. I just called the FCC again (08/16/02) and was told that MCI answered them in June and stated that the $45.89 was a credit and they would not send me my money back. They did not address the conlicting stories from their own people about one minute getting a check and the next nothing or that I had no service with them. I told the FCC that I am not the only person they did this to and that I have the documentation to prove my side of this and that they have nothing. I was told that since they refuse to pay, the only way to push this would be to hire a lawyer or pay a $129 fee to file a formal complaint.

I have no other recourse. This is insane. I know that they are nailing MCI-Worldcom for their accounting fraud as per the news, but, what does that do for us, who were victimized? Considering how extensive this fraud is, someone in the government should be looking into what has been posted here. I have told everyone I know to stay away from them.

Luckily, I just stopped a friend from signing on with them and he called back to cancel a day after filing for service. One customer service rep told him he had to wait till he received service to cancel, which I told him was a trap. He called back and got another rep who did the cancel then and there. Time will tell if they end up screwing with him also. I would be interested in a class action suit. Spread the word and warn everyone you can. They are a bunch of crooks.
