Horrendous return policies & BAD customer service Ripoff

I made the BIG mistake of having my baby registry at Target. I created the registry online, mostly because most of the items I wanted they do not offer in the store and you can't scan something that isn't there! I ended up with about 7 gifts bought off of my registry that were duplicates or it turned out I didn't need them because someone bought something similar that I liked better.

So I go to Target to take the items back, prices ranging from $2 - $15. I go to the customer service line, wait 15 minutes (not easy when you're 9 months pregnant) and finally get to someone. I explain they were off the registry and I didn't have a gift receipt (the registry anywhere will always serve as one as it shows things were purchased) so she asks me to go to a kiosk and print a copy out.

I do that, which took all of a minute, and she's already busy helping someone else! I had to wait another 5 minutes until she was done with that lady before I can talk to her again. I give her the registry and she tells me I was supposed to print out the gift log, NOT the registry. Would've been nice if she told me that the first time. So before I go and print that out, I ask her if she can wait until she's done with me to help someone else because this process takes only a minute and the kiosk is only 10 feet away. This is where the bad attitude started. She huffed and said "if you hurry".

So I go and try to print out the gift log. It asked for a password. Apparently I created this password 6 months prior when I created the registry. I thought I remembered it but I didn't so I asked the lady what to do. She says to call corporate customer care and MAYBE they would be able to help me. I asked her why they need it when CLEARLY on the registry printout it showed as purchased. She chalked it up to policy and handed me the phone. Ok... My bad, I forgot a password but I was so tired I said I would go home and look for the password and come back but to give me the number just in case.

Well, I couldn't find the right password so I call. They couldn't give it to me... They said they didn't have a way to retrieve it. They couldn't even figure out a way for me to retrieve the password from the website! What website doesn't have that feature?! So I asked them if I could just use the registry and exchange the items for other things and they said that wasn't possible. I said "Well why the hell not?" to which the lady responded "I am not going to take this abuse" and hung up on me!!! I wasn't being nasty I was just frustrated and last I checked that statement is not an abusive one.

So I call back and immediately ask for a supervisor because I figure the lady I was talking to didn't know what she was talking about and used my comment as an excuse to get off the phone. The supervisor basically told me his employee was right, I was wrong, and had I remembered this password we wouldn't have a problem! I understand where they're coming from but they should have a way to retrieve it OR a way for me to use the registry as a reciept like everyone else under the sun! After all, the registry was created through an amazon.com account!

Getting nowhere but ticked off I decided to go back to the store and just return them without any reciept. Turns out you can only return two items witout a reciept PER YEAR. I got $13 worth of store credit and gave the other items away to other moms.

Target is NOT the place for a baby registry. Many times (about a dozen) the items were not in stock and people had to print out the registry and take it to babies r us to get the items in time for the shower. My experience of trying to return duplicates was horrendous all because of a stupid password. I take responsibility for not remembering it, but having no recourse if its lost is just bad business and customer service ESPECIALLY when they have the record that the item was purchased! That corporate customer service is a farce. They don't help at all. Go to babies R Us or Baby Depot, they know how to treat their customers.
