I received a call early one morning from someone at a (800#) on my cell phone several weeks ago. Monutes. She stated that, as a "prefered" Visa/Mastercard holder, I was automatically able to qualify and be entered into a $25,000 sweepstakes, she just needed me to "verify" some information.

She asked if I did in fact own a Visa/Mastercard. I told her that it was only a Debit/Mastercard. If I was only "verifying" information, shouldn't she have known that already? Next she said that I would be transfered to a suppervisor so she could validate my information, for quality assurance.

When the next person came on the line, they asked me to verify & repeat all the information again. After I had verified the information, they went on to say that I was also being awarded 6 "free" magazines, along with a "free" diamond watch.

Well, I later found out that "free" meant if I agreed to pay for (1), I'd get the rest free. Then thay said I would be charged for a (2year) subscription to all (6) of the magazines. [They neglected to say, that it would be a month for (15months): before I went ahead to give them my bank information.] I just thought was a good deal for (6) magazines for (2years).

After I realized what was really going on, I tried cancel my subsription to the magazines. I stated that I was a single mother on Social Security Disability and I could not "afford" to pay that much for magazines.

Instead of being understandable of my situation, and allowing me to withdrawl my subsriptions; they offered to reduce my payments to monthly. When I said that it was still too much, they offered to reduce it even more; down to monthly. I still objected and they went on to reduce it to a month. They just were not going to let me "cancel" for any reason! It was very frustrating!

This company is very persistent and I have received several calls on my cell phone. I usually just ignore them but I wish there was a way to stop them from harrassing me! How can I keep them and other simular companies from getting away with these kind of "scams"? Is there any way to keep from them being able to access my bank account?
