I got a call from a man who said I was entered into their million dollar sweepstakes for being visa card user. He said that I was randomly chosen out of millions of other card users to be apart of this lucky million dollar sweepstakes.
He said I had just as good of a chance of winning the million as any of the other contestants. He asked me to verify information about myself such as address, phone number, name, and what credit card I was using. I asked why he needed the info and he said that all contestants automatically are given the option to receive a free women's or men's watch with free shipping and handling.
I verified the info. I asked him even after he told me it was free if I was going to have to pay for anything and he said no. He said it was their way of saying thank you for being a user of my visa card. He then told me he was going to let me go and his supervisor would be giving me a call shortly to make sure he did his job right. He said he was new and asked if I could put in a good word for him so I said sure. A few minutes later this woman calls me and tells me she's the man's supervisor. She asks if he did his job right by telling me about me being entered into the million dollar sweepstakes, about the watch, if he wrote down the right watch, etc. She asks if he told me about the free sample of magazines I'd also be receiving in the mail and I said no. She said that along with the watch, I would receive my choice of magazines for a sample pack that would be mailed to me free of charge. I asked if I would have to pay shipping or anything and she said no but if I liked the magazines and wanted to continue receiving them, I would need to call and order them. She recommended a year supply of 5 magazines for only 38 dollars a month. I told her I didnt want to order any but I wouldnt mind receiving the sample pack as long as I got to choose what magazines would be in it and I wouldnt have to pay for it.
She again said the sample pack is free of charge and then proceeded to ask my interests so she could recommend magazines.
She asked if i could verify my visa card number and I told her I'd have to go find it which I did. She said she needed to know when my card expired and when I asked why she needed my credit card info at all, she said it was so that she could match it up with her info to make sure I was indeed who I said I was. I asked again everything was free and she said yes but if I wanted to order the year's worth of magazines I would have to pay and I told her I understood that part and I didnt want the year's supply.
She said alright and told me if I changed my mind, I could always call and order them because they have my name and address in their records so all I'd have to do is give them the say-so.
She told me to have a great day and the conversation was over.
Soon enough, I start getting charged for magazines that I hadn't even gotten. I called them back and told them to stop. They said there was nothing I could do to cancel with them as I entered a 5 year contract. I was young and naiive at the time and too embarassed to admit it to anyone so I paid it. Biggest mistake of my life. If you get this call HANG UP! Lets get these scammers out of business!
