My wife and I went to Clancy Optical for our eye exam and new glasses on 9/11. The eye doctor was very good, but that is where the professional service ended.
It took more than two weeks before our glasses were ready. We went to pick them up and my wife's glasses were OK, but mine were screwed up. The frames were not the color that I had picked out and the progressive bi-focal was not correct (due to the optician measuring wrong). He insisted that I try them for a day or two even tho I told him that I couldn't read anything with them.
We went back and saw a different optician and he admitted that they screwed up. I let them re-make my glasses. More than two weeks later they were ready—frames were correct, but everything was blurred through the left lens and things were blurred when looking anywhere except through the direct center of each lens when looking at a distance thru the top part of each lens.
They checked each lens with a machine (at the very center) and said that the prescription was correct. I made about five trips to their office after them making adjustments each time and even went and got my eyes checked again by the Dr.
I said that I wanted a refund and after a time, Mr Clancy offered a refund on the frames only (because he could resell them). He said they don't give refunds on things that are made correctly and that some distortion is normal in eye glass lenses. He was very condecending and cold while dealing with me, made me feel very uncomfortable and acted like I was just a pain in the neck that he wanted to get out of his store. I took the refund on the frames just to cut my losses and left with no new glasses. I lost $295.00 at Clancy Optical (Spex).
His Dr thinks that Essilor makes their lenses, but I called every Essilor Lab in the region (and Essilor Headquarters) and none of them made my lenses for Clancy Optical Company.
The Better Business Bureau has a similar complaint listed.
