I recieved a Mastercard from Capitol One in May I charged a new kitchen counter top for $410.00. Shortly afer that my husband passed away so I got a little behind on payments although all together I had sent twice as much money to them than I had charged on that card but they said I owed them something like 800.00 but they would settle for half of that if I paid it all at once so I borrowed money from family and paid them off.
I still kept getting calls from their collections almost every day after I paid them off saying they wanted there money for a visa card that they said I had which is around $1300.00 now. I have never had that card and if they sent me one I never got it.
I ask them to send me verification that I got and used that card which to date they have not done. They filed this with the credit bureau and done a charge off and then they keep selling it to different collections companys to keep it updated. If I really owed that bill I would have paid on it but I refuse to pay for something I never had. They are big time rip offs. How do I stop them or how do I make them prove it to me.
There should be a law that would make them prove I used that card before they have the right to ruin my credit.
