Pony Express - Patriot Movers
Ripoff artists, inaccurate estimates, much damaged and missing furniture, not paying claims, no response to claims, And Tampa, Florida

The estimate, loading, and packing process:

Sales estimator was given a very detailed description of items to be shipped and packed and boxed. An estimate of 40 boxes was given to him along with much information as to what had to be packed such as glass, ceramics, electronics, artificial plants, etc. The 8,000# plus the 40 boxes was estimated at $3300. That did not include the storage charges that was required at a future date.

I was told the move would all complete with disasembly of furniture as need, complete packing and protection of selected items into boxes, wrapping and blanketing of all furniture, special protection for tv's, all for a complete move. At the destination all items would be re-assembled, set into place at my desigination, all refuse, blanketing, etc. Would be removed making my house occupiable except for small boxed items which i agreed to unpack. I spent $4870 for a process I could have done myself for probably $3000.

The moving guys showed at my home 11 hours late. I had 2 people them to assist in the moving waiting for 7 hours and i had to pay them $140 for their time. It took almost 12 hours for the moving guys to finsih. When they arived they were exhausted from working almost 2 weeks in a row with out a single days off. I walked the house with them twice showing them what had to loaded which was essentially everything in the house. They would complete a room and I would walk back into it only to find items that had not been loaded onto the truck.

The storage, moving, and unpacking process:

The truck arrived 6 hours late. Pony had not given me the cell number of the driver nor could i reach home office as it was a weekend. I desiginated places for everything to be put. Nothing was unpacked, no furniture was assembled, blankets that were removed were left on the floor along with refuse, boxes, blankets, removed tape etc. For the few items that were un-packed.

When I returned home from picking my son up at work after about 1 20 minute absence, the movers had left leaving the home in shambles for me to clean up, remove blanketing, untape, etc. The lady that rooms with me was home now and she told me the movers had left a few minutes ago. I jumped in my car and persued then making then come back to assemble beds, mirrors, etc. For both bedrooms.

I left again and when I returned home I found nothing assembled except the 2 matresses/box springs were on both beds. Nothing had been cleaned up, my house was a mess.

Missing, damaged, repairable, replaceable furniture and accessories:

All in all, the claim is for about $11,000 worth of missing and damaged items. I would suspect most of the missing items were either stolen or at possibly still at the location where the furniture was restored. Of major consequence is my $3200 5.1 surround home bose theatre sound system which I had packed personally in its original shipping box. As to the many collectibles I had such as sailing ships, elephant figurines and statutes, they were all hand collected over a 2 year period of time when I re-decorated my home. They are probably irreplaceable now not being able to be found again here in texas.

I will have to do much shopping, spend much time, over a period of a couple years to replace them. The damage that was done to these specific knick-knacks ocurred as they were all set in a large wardrobe container, none of them protected in any way, and the container had sustained much damage to the outside. The front was caved in at the bottom and the top flap was bowed out. My brand new $1600 stainless steel maytag refrigerator had sustained much damage to the front ss cabinet caused when your men backed the truck up to my wood stairs and deck. They pulled the refrigerator onto the hydraulic loading platform and in the process tipped the refrigerator over onto the stairs landing handrails.

Your men knew of much of the damage that had been done and their statement to me was to file a claim with you. The inventory sheets your original mover made on a spiral steno pad could not be produced by your move-in men. Some items are tagged with a yellow stick-on lable.

It has been over 15 months now and my claim has not been processed in spite of the fact I was told I had insurance to adequately cover any item. Upon calling their number all I get is a recorded message to leave my name and number. They never return my phone calls.

I have full documentation and pictures of all damaged items which have been sent 3 times along with all necessary claim forms.

I am very interested in filing a lawsuit with any parties who are interested in that. I am currently trying to locate a specialized attorney in the skokie/chicago area to file suit.
