As a single, disabled woman, I felt that I had no other choice than to go with the company that the realtor suggested, even though I had experienced several problems with First American Home Buyers in my previous home, which had to be repaired before the new buyers would accept moving in.
Since moving into my home, I experience yellow water in every faucet, toilet, if they even worked. Over a period of three years, I paid for service calls and repairs, being told it was my hot water heater (which they would not repair) to the water lines in my home. Apparently the water lines had not been updated since 1969.
To date, I have replaced my water lines TWICE, to the tune of $12,350, only to find out that First American now informs me that they would have paid for new lines! I did call them many times after having to pay their contractors numerous times. The final installation was down by a firm owned by Patrick Goldstein, employed by First American. Numerous times his techs told me that First American would NOT cover new installation. (Second installation had to be done since the pipes were "too small" and I had a major leak under the house which caused mold and $1,600 in fines by the Dept. Of Water.)
When I called to complain to First American, since Patrick Goldstein's men ripped off all of my new tools, crates, left a complete mess of cut up pipes in my driveway, along with food trash, no repair to the hole they made in the side of my home, I had to dance through hoops to get even a supervisor to speak with me. He, then, told me that Patrick Goldstein's company went out of business and I had no recourse! Ask me if I renewed my policy! Could it have something to do with the numerous contractors I had to complain about, the
lack of timely service calls (sometimes 5-7 days)...
