I had moved back in December 05 and had my cable account transferred to the new address. I received a bill from Comcast on January 11,06 with a zero balance. Then on February 11th, I received another one with a balance. I contacted Comcast and found out it was an honest error on their part (it was a balance due from the "old" account that was entered incorrectly). So I went ahead and paid the balance, it wasn't due until March 4th.
Dated the SAME DAY as the cable statement, is a letter from Credit Collection Services for the same amount. I TRIED to explain to them, it was an error and it has been taken care of with Comcast. Payment had been sent to Comcast. The person I talked to stated that I would have to contact Comast to tell them to contact them to tell them that the payment was received. I told the person I shouldn't have to do their job, that I had already taken care of the bill and that was it. The person told me they would keep contacting me until they got the money. I told them "good luck" they don't have my phone number!
I received another "statement" from them on 2/27/06 with the legal mumbo jumbo of "this is an attempt to collect a debt" blah blah blah. I ignored it.
Today is 3/27/06, I got ANOTHER ONE! This time tho' it doesn't have an address or phone number at the top of the "statement" AND it looks like a photo copy! But I do have the old ones with the number.
I contacted Comcast again, and they told me that the account is a zero balance. They are sending me a zero balance statement. The Comcast rep asked me if there was a fax number that they could send the zero balance statement to the "collection agency", of course there isn't one.
Called the "collection agency". On hold forever having to listen to god awful 80's music! Hung up after 18 minutes.
I DARE them to put something on my credit report.
