Cable Corporation Unfair billing practices, failed to apply payments to account, suspended service

My wife and I have had Comcast for the past two years, after they took over a competitor in Latrobe, PA. When we were with a competitor, everything was fine. If we had a question about the bill, they would stay on the phone until you understood where the charges came from. If you had a past-due bill, they would work with you to pay it off. Not Comcast!

When Comcast took over a competitor, things went downhill, fast. The very first thing we noticed was the On Demand service didn't work for 6 months. We asked for a credit, they would not provide one. Our cable boxes kept going bad, they wouldn't provide better ones. When our bill increased, they would not give us an adequate explanation as to why.

When we were with the competitor, our bill was current. When Comcast moved in, our bill went from being $99 per month, to $160 per month. All the sudden, we had a past-due bill of almost $570, with no explanation from Comcast on where the charges came from. We were lucky to finally get someone who would work with us, and put us on a Payment Arrangement for $180 per month until the bill was paid off. We got the bill caught up, and thought everything was okay. It was not!

We moved into our current residence in August. We were charged an installation fee of $59, plus the costs of running new cable. No cable needed to be placed since our apartment is cable-ready. We tried to dispute the charges with Comcast, but they wouldn't give us the time of day! We were then told our account was past-due in the amount of approx. $600! This was in December.

We talked with the same person that arranged the original agreement, and set us up on $280 per month until we were caught up. We paid each month in the amount of $280, but our bill kept going up. Starting in March we only received a bill every other month. We received phone calls and letters threatening to suspend our service if we didn't pay. We tried to tell Comcast this, but guess what? They didn't care.

Now, in September I called to find out the balance since we didn't get a bill that month.in the months we missed, our balance somehow got up to $1,200. We were removed from the payment plan due to missed payments, and would not be placed on another. We had to pay $160 to keep the service active until 11/10.

We provided bank documents, and talked with other people in Comcast, including some upper managers. Didn't help us at all. One of the billing representatives said the only way our bill could be this high, is if we had the service active for one year, and didn't pay a dime. He said he could see the payments we supposedly missed.

Our service is now suspended, and will be reported to a collection agency. This is a severe injustice done to us by Comcast.
