I took my diamond engagement ring last Tuesday (3/21/06) to Helzberg Diamonds in Memorial City Mall to have them put my diamond into a new mount. They sent it off to a guy they contract and my fiance picked up my ring that Friday (3/24/06). Helzberg tested my diamond to confirm it was real before sending it off to their contractor. When I opened the box Friday night I noticed that the "diamond" was smaller and it just didn't look right. I thought that it was just the new setting so I put it back into the box. The next morning I went to a jewelry and watch repair store by my house to have them size the ring for me and as soon as I got to the store, the guy asked me if it was a real diamond. I said yes so he pulled out a diamond tester machine. He proceeded to test the "diamond" and informed me it was NOT real, but fake. The ring never left my hand. He then pulled out a diamond ring from his case and showed me that his machine was working because the machine went off. I immediately called Helzberg Diamonds to inform them and told them I was on my way. I took the ring straight back to the original store I had work on it and they confirmed that the "diamond" in my new setting was NOT real and the store manager stated that they tested it before sending it off and it had been real but they did NOT check it when it came back on Friday. He then began to insinuate that I or the jewelry repair place had the real diamond replaced with this new fake one but the ring has not left my possession in the mere 15 hours I had it. He called the guy who worked on it and he was supposed to "look around" and see if he could find my diamond and come up to the store but I have not heard back from them. I left the fake ring with them so their contractor can look at it and I was told they will call me during the week with an update. I called Helzberg back 30 minutes after leaving to let them know the specifics of my diamond and the store manager proceeded to tell me he "inspected" my ring and it looks like 2 of the prongs had been opened. The only person to have my ring was Helzberg Diamonds and the guy they contract. They are beginning to deny responsibility and make it look as if I am trying to rip them off which is a total lie! I told the store manager all I want is my original diamond back, nothing more or less because it has sentimental value to me since my father gave it to me as a gift.
