My son talked me into a cell phone and I agreed to cosign for the bill. Everything was fine for several months, the bill came to my home and I paid it on time, every time.
My son went away to attend college in Maine. Without my approval, and per my son's request, Verizon changed the billing address without my knowledge. My son failed to pay the bill and so Verizon sent it to their collection department.
At that time I was contacted by Verizon about the unpaid bill. It was quite large. I was told that this would not go on my credit report if I agreed to make monthly payments, which I did.
I pulled a credit report and there it was. Listed as a charge off, skip, etc. This was on all 3 credit agencies.
I wrote Verizon several times to request they honor their word as I paid the bill in full to remove this negative information. I spoke to their customer service office in NY with a lady named Anne.
Instead of removing it, they changed it almost on a monthly basis from open account to closed account, to paid, to balance due, to skip, etc, etc. Their comments change monthly even thought the account is closed and paid in full. It's amazing how they can do this to people and get away with it.
I wrote and disputed this with the credit agencies several times with no real success. Although I did manage to get it removed from my report entirely for just one day; then there it was again.
I never pay my bills late and believe me my son got a good talking to. I feel Verizon should have notified me sooner about this problem so it would never have gotten to the point of collections. They should have asked my permission to change the billing address.
I honestly feel they are deliberately antagonizing me because I moved 3 of my accounts from them to their competitor, Cingular.
