I was hit from behind in a car accident in December. Called Henson Law Firm, explained the situation, and they said to come in as they would take my case.
I had expressed that I needed chiropractic care, as I am a professioanl musician. They "suggested" that I use the chiropractor that the receptionist I was speaking with uses, and conviently, he was in his own office, at the lawyer's office. His name is Dr. Randy Kale. He sent me to his office the next day, took xrays, and began my treatment.
He showed me the xrays, Dr. Kale that is, and said that my top bone in my neck was pressing into my brain stem. I asked him at that time if he would take xrays again at the end of my treatment, and he said yes they would, and would use those to show the insurance company my progress, from his treatment.
On my second visit to Dr. Kale, I expressed that the pain in my neck would prevent me from playing in my next week's concert. He said to me, "well girl, you're just going to have to toughen up, and get through it anyway. It's hard to get the insurance companies to cover missed work". I'm sorry, but as a violinst, it was clear that he had no concern over my well being. Thankfully, I ended up receiving treatment from a different practitioner in the Kale Clinic, and received quite excellent care. I never saw Dr. Kale again.
To this day, October 20, I have yet to receive a copy of the bill from the Kale Clinic. I was told by the Henson Law Firm, that the bill was in the amount of $4900.00. This would be for a set of about 4 xrays, and 2 adjustments a week for 8 weeks.
I was told numerous falsehoods over the summer from Jenny Devita, Mr. Henson's paralegal. Apparently the insurance adjuster that had to release my payment was on vacation 3 times (for at least 2 weeks each time). I was told at first that he had to reply to the demand for payment letter within 30 days, and that "law" somehow miraculously changed, because I was then told that he could take longer than 30 days. I was told originally that the demand for payment letter was mailed to the Insurance Co, in May, but it was not mailed until the end of July.
I was told that the adjuster finally mailed the payment check on one day, and then it came out a few days later, that he had mailed it at a later date. The check had still arrived a week later, and I was subsequently told that Ms. Devita had just left a message on the adjustor's voice mail, that they would be filing a formal complaint in regards to his hindring the settlement being completed.
I asked for the adjuster's name and contact number, was put on hold, and when she came back in, said that the information was locked in the attorney's office. I asked if the office manager could retrieve the information, and was told she was in a meeting. I was then told that I would receive that information by the end of the day from Ms. Devita.
I instead, found the name and contact number of the adjuster myself, and phoned him. Not only had he not received a voice mail from Henson Law Firm, he had no idea that the check had not been received, as I had been led to believe from Ms. Devita. He then called Henson Law Firm, and had a terse conversation with them. I then received a phone call from Brenda, at Henson Law Firm, lecturing me about contacting the insurance adjuster. I explained to her, that if that was something was not to do, why did Ms. Devita say she would phone me by day's end, with his name and contact information. I did not receive an answer to this question.
It is quite obvious that the realationship between Kale Chiropractic Clinic and Henson Law Firm is financially beneficial to them alone. I was even told that the charges with the Chiropractor had to be renegotiated, because they had been inflated. I was told this by Ms. Devita.
8 months, for this process, and my pocket money is about less than $3000.00. This, from a 3 car collision where a woman was reaching for her cell phone, slammed into the truck behind me, totaling it, and then slamming into me. My neck is a mess... I have seen no bill, no medical information confirming that I have been successfully cured, especially in direct to relationship to my profession as a violinist, and how that will be effected in the future from this accident.
I originally went to the Henson Law Firm from knowing a personal friend and partner of Mr. Henson, who sadly, is no longer with us on this earth. I am saddened that my presence in this Law Firm's business, was only to couple of thousand dollars in pocket change. What's even sadder, is that I feel there is nothing really I can do, to change this event, if I am ever to get some compensation from this accident.
My advice? Don't use Henson Law Firm, if you're in an accident. If I were not as aggressive as I have been, it would have been months longer before I ever saw a penny. I've put up with their rudeness and anger at me on the phone because I have had to hound them weekly, to get even the tiniest thing done on this case. I confronted the lies as I heard them, and reminded Ms. Devita that I took notes on every conversation we had via telephone, which enabled me to easily note her many contradictions.
I've worked for lawyers before, and work with them now on a daily basis. There are many good ones. I do think that when we have good experiences, they should be made public. I also feel this way about the bad ones.
Unless you want to be in a "meat market" that benefits only Henson and Kale, get somewhere else for your care after an accident.
