Friday, May 13 i came home from my first year at college. After being home for a few days i soon realized that i need a job. My grandma showed me an ad in the newspaper about a job that hires college students, naturally i was intrigued. Although the ad contained very little information about this company, i still saw the words 15 dollars base appt. At that time, 15 dollars was hard to find. I applied for the job and i came in for the interview, not actually knowing what it was that i applied for. I was quite skeptical when i saw that i had to go into peoples houses, starting with family and friends, and attempt to sell knives of all things. Well, like ive been seeing more and more, they made it seem as if there were few positions availible with many applicants, but what do you know... I get the job. Well after my long three days of training i was ready to jump onto my fast start. I made around 1500 dollars for my 10 day fast start which to my boss was "okay" but this is my first time doing something like this. Anyways, i kept asking my manager about the fast start forms and shes like were all out. I was cheated out on three knives for one thing but i have plenty more...
Then she said oh if youre worried about gas then tallie up all the miles you drove and you could write it off like as a tax write off... 40.5 cents to the gallon. Well thats nothing with the soaring gas prices. I was actually losing money with gas.
Oh, then theres the conferences that they tell you that nobody gets invited to but then they invite you to make you feel special. I was invited to SCI just two days after my training. I had to cough up 100 dollars... 100 dollars that i didnt even have cause i was working at this job to make money, not spend it. Then they give you a 4 piece table knife set making you feel like you didnt piss all that money away.
My manager really treated me like shit if i didnt make a sale. She didnt understand the concept "even with investment options, not everybody can afford cutco." well during our SCII push weeks she got tough on us. Well the week before the push she took me into her office and yelled at me for not making any sales the week before. She said that this would be absolutely unacceptable to any key staffer, well i wasnt one. I still had another job to go with this one and i hadnt the time or energy for key staff. Well it was kind of funny how her attitude changed when i had my first grand day the first day of the push. She was pretty nice to me then.
My manager openly admited to us that if we dont make our offices goal then on dec 31ist she wouldnt get her 30 thousand dollar bonus check and she had the balls to pass that check around and tell us that we are very important to her earning that check.
Oh and these knive are shit. My mom bought a galley 6 set and the high carbon surgical stainless steel on all of her blades have numerous little burn spots. Whats funny is that my mom isnt the only one of my customers to notice this. I felt so awful to be a part of this scam that not only scams its employees but its customers. I actually just turned in my sample kit a few hours ago and could not be happier. I have plenty more to say about the lies of cutco but its late and i have a much better job to tend to in the morning. I could probably talk about how terrible this company is for days...
