I scheduled a move with these guys in April of this year. During the move, they damaged a computer desk. The hutch was ripped from the bottom portion. They called in to the office at which time I spoke with a representative of their company. She said they could still move the desk, but would have to charge me for it, or they could leave it and deduct the amount from my bill.
I asked her if the insurance company would have to come out and look at the desk in order to pay. She said no, it was not necessary to keep the desk for that purpose. That the claims were based on weight; paying. 60 per lb. She said that type of desk usually weighed about 100 pounds, so the payout would probably be $60. The person I spoke with said her name was Darlene.
I tried for a couple months after the move to get an update on the insurance payout but noone would give me an answer or return my calls. I finally spoke with Robert who said because we didn't still have the desk, they could pay us. I told him his company is the one who told me we did not have to keep the desk. He said, well you got credited $10; I said, that was for not moving the damaged desk. He said there was nothing he could do.
I should have known it was a shady company; when they first arrived and opened the back of the moving van, there was someone else's stuff still in there. They called the owner, Charles, who came out to my house looking like he just rolled out of bed, to remove the stuff. Then when I needed a refrigerator at the new house moved in order to put in another, the mover told me he and his buddy could do it for a "tip"; that if he had to call it in and get a quote, it would be more. I told him I did not have any cash, so he called it in.
Also, they were suppose to follow me to the new location. The two guys doing the move, said they were not familiar with the area. We communicated via cell phones. I exited where I told them I would (they had gotten far behind) and waited and waited and waited. Then they called and said they were almost at the house. That they had taken a different exit because they were familiar with the area and knew a short cut. When they got to the house, it was apparent they had driven through somewhere to get something to eat.instead of just telling me they were going to do that so I could just meet them at the house.
