I closed my account without renewing, and now they still charge my bank account? Ripoff

I joined eHarmony in February. I took advantage of an offer to get three months of service for aone-time fee of $49.95.

After the three months were up, I chose not to continue in their service. They sent me an email offering me the option of extending my membership for six months for "just" $120.00, to be billed in six easy payments of $19.95 a month.

I did not respond to the offer.

Two days later I noted that my debit card, which had been used to open the account in febraury, had been debited by eharmony for $19.95.

I immediately went to their service, and closed the account out, cancelling my membership. I intended to contact them about a refund for the $19.95 charge, but over the next four weeks I forgot about it, other than to occasionally think about calling them to request a refund (I had dealt with their "customer service" several times before, and ldid not relish the task) and basically to decide it was not worth the time and pain for $19.95.

So, now here we are on June 15, and guess what?

EHarmony debited my card for ANOTHER $19.95, just today.

I called them right away. I was (am, and will be) pissed.

The customer service rep took all of my info, and then claimed I had "signed" a contract for the six month renewal. I explaiined to the rep (speaking slowly and calmly) that this never happened, that I had closed the account myself and NEVER renewed my original three month membership.

Checking my account, the customer service rep said my account was indeed closed (and when I asked who closed it, he could not say, even though I knew I had closed it myself. I then told him I had closed it myself, on the very day he agreed was the date of closure.) The customer service rep then stated that even though my account was closed I still owed them the $120.00 on the contract (you know, the contract they claimed I 'signed" but never actually did?) that they were taking the payments for.

Okay, so fast forward to this gem of customer relations: After taking all of my info, putting me on hold for five minutes, and conferring with his fellow wizards, the customer service rep told me he could not handle this sort of complaint! It would have to be handled by the "Billing Department", and they would be getting back to me, by email! I sweetly allowed as to how this would be just dandy, but would he mind giving me the Billign Departments telephone number so I could check back with them just, you know, just IN CASE the Billing Department misplaced my file and accidentally forgot to, like, you know CALL ME BACK?

"Uhm, I'm sorry, I can't do that."

I sweetly and gently asked, "Why can't you give me their telephone number?"

He replied with a nervous tone, "Uh, they aren't set up for that."

"Okay", I came back at him" I don't mind that they aren't set up for that, just give me their number and I will talk to them anyway."

Now he was really nervous, "Ah, well, they don't have a phone, they do everything by email. You should hear from them in two to thre3e days."

Folks, eHarmony is a rip off. I don't care to address their claims of finding true love for the masses. For all I care, they could get me a date with Paris Hilton, guarantee me a lifetime of connubial bliss with the fourteenth-hottest super-model ever to blitz down a runway, AND thrown in a one-inght stand with Jenna Jameson, and my response would stilll be the same: "Why are you lying about this contract I never signed, why are you stealing my money, and WHEN WILL YOU GVE ME BACK MY MONEY!?"

They are crooks. If I get you a date with my hot sister, and also pick your pocket, I am a crook. End Of Story!
