I must remain anonymous, but back in the summer of 1991, several people were brought up on misconduct charges, accused of making threats against Bellsouth personnel and summarily discharged. I was one of them. I went to the CWA Union 3204, headed by Harold Mincey as my case officer, and filed a grievance.
A fellow employee, Renee Bell, came forward and explained at length what was going on. The Union did its best to have me reinstated with full back pay, but Bellsouth company refused, using the excuse one of the complainants had threated legal action if I was rehired.
The management reps were Jerry Martin and Jo Ellen Sandek *Mrs Sandek and her family later died in an unrelated light plane accident about 2 yrs ago*. So, to make a long sad story short, my career was ruined.
I was able to obtain $15,000 which Bellsouth offered if I would agree to avoid going to arbitration. Naturally, I sought to file a civil suit, but Bellsouth is so big rich and powerful no lawyer would touch me. So, I was forced to accept and complete a non disclosure paper absolving them from all blame and denying me any further recourse.
Since then, I haven't been able to find a comparable job, and its now 2005. Beware of Bellsouth: they have ALWAYS treated their employees like dirt since they were divested by Judge Harold Greene in 1984. Go with another business for your telecommunications needs when possible. Cingular is a subsidiary of Bellsouth, beware them also. Most ppl at Bellsouth are hardworking, fine ppl, but their management is the WORST I have ever had the misfortune to work under!
