The company's "MVP Membership" at varying levels allows you to rent movies for 5 days at a time: unlimited per month. On most memberships, movies marked as "HOT" (aka "the Hot List") are not included.
Sometimes, I find movies NOT MARKED as "hot", but the clerks contend they are and will not rent them. Only the manager — who is usually unavailable — can rent them. I have had this happen more often than not.
The "last straw": late fees. I have been a member since 04 and the one time I return 3 movies late by one (1) day, I am charged for *5* days late on each movie: $15.00 ($14.99) ad to hassle with the store manager — this after I found out one-week after-the-fact — to lower this fee to one movie at 5 days late: $4.79. I explained that I would pay one day late x 3 movies, but the store manager said that "this is corporate policy".
I am paying the $4.79 since I don't want this to appear on my credit report and I am cancelling my membership. I have signed up with NetFlix and can download movies and rent others by mail without the hassle of dealing with idiots, miscreants, unprofessionals, and scammers at Holywood Video!!
