Unfortunately I must write a negative review about the Lowes home improvement store in Abilene where I have been a frequent customer for over 20 years. The last few times I have been there, I have noticed that the staff do not seem to have any knowledge regarding the products they are trying to sell, nor do they have the initiative to learn about the products or find answers to questions. But the experience I had last night has driven me to change allegiance and I will now be a frequent and loyal customer to Home Depot
I purchased a sliding screen door to install with my French doors that I had purchased about 5 years ago. When I told the guy the size I needed, he said that they did not come in that size and that i needed this one. I was also told that Lowes does not install screen doors and that it was an easy DIY project. So, when my handy man tried to install it, it was, as I knew it would be, too tall. That was bad enough, but when I returned to the Millwork dept, and tried to explain to 2 of the workers that the screen door was not the correct size and does Lowes have one that will fit. After all, I purchased the French door from Lowes and they should carry a screen to fit. Anyway the guy seemed to think that I did not know how to measure, or that I did not know how to read numbers on a measuring tape or so So what could I say. If the guy is insisting that because this door is 79 inches tall, then my door must also be 79 inches tall, then there was no point in trying to convince him otherwise. So I threw up my hands and went to Home Depot, where I was treated with respect and courtesy. The worker did not work in the milllwork dept, but he managed to locate the right door and helped me carry it to my car and load it up. This screen door is of much better quality and less expensive than the one at Lowes. And it is only 78 inches tall and fits perfectly in the space.
