I moved into this apartment over a week ago and was shown a different apartment when before I signed the lease. That apartment had the same layout and everything seemed fine. So when I moved into this apartment it had the most awful smell. I thought well maybe it is just the carpet cleaning and will go away in a few days. Was I wrong.
First off the whole place smells of mold and mildew but the worse is my son who is 3 his room has carpet that is beyond repair or shampooing cleaning. Since I have cleaned it 2 more times on top of there cleaning. What was pulled up was dog hair, moldy water, it is just disgusting. I have notified them twice that this carpet needs replaced as it is a health hazard. I have gotten the run around. We will see answer!
I have since called the health department in my state and I am in the meantime waiting to have someone come out and inspect the place. The mold, urine smell just wont go away and the carpet stay's damp in that room. It is so bad I almost vomited this morning going in there. I have called several steam cleaning companies and they all stated that the carpet needs replaced from what I am telling them. Mold is a health hazard on top of whatever else in that carpet.
The lady at the office told me the previous tenant had birds. She lied. The neighbors told me she had a dog at least and from what my steamer was pulling up wades of nasty moldy hair it was not a bird. The steamer also brought up stains over 20 of them. So this is the biggest issue that I hope to get some help from the health department because I will not have my son stay in that room. He already has learning disabilities and I am sure this will make things ten times worse.
Secondly on top of minor repairs. The porch has 1 foot railings which I am pretty sure is a building violation. My son ran out too the road yesterday by squeezing through the railings good thing I caught him since the door I had to run out was a good 30 feet from the porch. So I mentioned at the office about the porch and was told to put chicken wire around it! I hear the building codes is 4 and 1/2 inches like everyone elses porches have around here. I will talk to the health inspector because I shouldnt have to put chicken wire around something that is a building violation.
I dont know of what other rights I have since I am new to renting so far this is the only advice I have received. I plan to move as soon as possible this place is just a joke.
Please do not move here. Or if you do PLEASE inspect your apartment townehome first and be prepared for lots of headaches. If you google these apartments which are in temperance michigan you will see they have crappy reviews. There are a few good reviews but I assume these people have the newer more updated apartments or staff. The neighbors told me they have been here 3 months and that none of there repairs were done and they did them themselves.
If anyone has any advice of anything else I can do please let me know. I am grasping at straws here.
