In 2004 I worked for a security company in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. I have a child support case with Bay County, Michigan. I received a letter from Bay County stating that I was not paying my Child support. I called the Friend of The Court and explained that there is a mistake and the support was coming directly from my paycheck. They asked me to send the paystubs to prove it and I did.
Well my employer at the time was experiencing theft in the office and my supprt was not being sent, but was being taken out.
So the FOC contacts me and says no problem we contacted your employer and it is all straightened out. The revocation of your license is recinded and there is nothing to worry about.
I go to renew my Idaho license this year and guess what? I have a red flag on it from Michigan and cannot renew. I call them and they say it is from not paying child support in 2004. But the record shows no missed payments from that time. It looks like your case worker (Sally Johnston) did contact your employer and she states in your record that the back payments were made and up to date.
I asked why is my license suspended then? And the y answer was this is a mistake. I will put in anm order to rescind right away. She (Ms. Nowak) did and I was surprised to get it so fast with the judges signature on it. Along with the oreder to rescind license suspension was a bill for 85 dollars payable to the Michigan DOT so they can take the flag off of the license.
Now I call back and ask why I have to pay for something I had nothing to do with? It wasn't my mistake. It was yours. So just tell the MDOT that there is no charge because the county goofed. Yeah Right. I had to pay.
Needless to say, I was hung up on, insulted and refused any further help in the matter. They hold people accountable for everything that they do wrong, from spitting on the sidewalk to murder, yet are insult and less than helpful when it is their turn to be accountable for their mistakes.
Now, my Federal taxes go toward my arrearage of child support. Last tax season was no different. But I have yet to see the money credited to my account lowering my balance with the FOC. I have called several times and they say the Feds have not released the funds yet with is starnge because I have never had to wait this long for my account to be credited. It is now 2009 tax season and still the money for 2008 taxes is missing from my account. The 2008 taxes are going to cut my balance in half and I have a strange feeling that the FOC does not want that to happen.
I canot afford to travel to Michigan at this time to find out where my money is. And when I call I have to make sure I don't sound irritated, or I will be hung up on and not helped at all. So I feel at the mercy of these power hungry county people.
Something needs to be done as far as a restructure is concerned. These people have to realize that it is important to everyone involved in theses cases to be treated with respect. The same respect that the FOC feels they deserve.
I WANT TO KNOW WHERE MY MONEY IS!!! And apply it to my account.
