I should have went with my intuition regarding her but I didnt. There is so much to my story that I will just outline some of the things here in list form.
1. She was very attentive and responsive before she was paid. Once I had paid her in full (before birth) it was hard to get a hold of her.
2. She promised the services of a doula, those services werent provided during actual labor.
3. She told me I could have a water birth, told me what I needed to get and she would take care of the rest, she came unprepared for this, so I did not have an option (which again I should have known since she told me that a water birth is more difficult for her).
4. She brought two assistants to my home. That day $700 were stolen from my moms purse.
5. She had her feet up on the couch, watching TV downstairs while I was in labor.
6. My water had been broken for 24 hours when she finally decided to go to the hospital.
7. She charged me even though she did not deliver me. I paid TWICE for my birth. I wanted to pay her for the day but not for the birth since she did not cut ombilical cord, clean baby, etc. The Birthing Center will reimburse you if you do not have a birth with them.
8. My son was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis and received surgery at 6 months. I strongly believe that he was left with no water in the birth canal for too long and this is why his sutures (bones in the head) fused prematurely.
I hope that you will never experience anything like this. I had a wonderful and safe experience at TMC. Whether you have a home birth or a birth at a hospital, I hope that you make the best decision for your baby.
Good Luck and God Bless.
