I was a customer of Cox in Las Vegas. I responded to an ad by Direct TV. I listened to the Direct TV sales girl's sales pitch. I told her I was currently a customer of Cox. I'm a big UNLV and Lakers basketball fan as well as UNLV football. I told the sales girl that Cox always broadcasts the UNLV basketball and football games. I specifically asked her if Direct TV broadcasts the UNLV basketball, football games and the Lakers games. I told her that if Direct TV didn’t broadcast them I would not switch. Without hesitation, she assured me that Direct TV broadcasts all of the UNLV basketball and football games as well as the Lakers games. Also that Direct TV has all the channels and broadcasts all of the games that Cox does plus many more. I agreed to let Direct TV install their satellite, equipment etc. The sales girl lied to me. Yesterday I saw in the Sports
Section of the newspaper that Cox is all signed up to broadcast the UNLV and Lakers basketball games but Direct TV is not!!! We've had ongoing problems with the Direct TV "Genie" system and modems. We've already had 6 different Direct TV techs come out to our home to fix the problems but the problems continue. Although Direct TV didn't show me a contract before then installed their equipment, they are now telling me that they will charge me $480 if I cancel their defective system that doesn't show the games I was promised they would show! They claim I have a contract with them but I was never shown a Contract or asked to sign a contract before they installed their equipment. The installing technician had me sign a hand held electronic device which he told me was a work order. Now Direct TV is claiming that was their Equipment Lease Agreement which I never saw!!! Direct TV is a "Bait and Switch" operation. I wish now that I had never allowed them to install their equipment. I'm going back to Cox and will fight it out with Direct TV in court if I have to. I'm also filing Complaints with the FCC, The U.S. Attorney General's Office, The Nevada Attorney General's office and my State Senator. I even offered Direct TV their first monthly chare of $74.00 just to get rid of them but they are holding threats of ruining our credit over us, actualy blackmail, if we canel them and don't pay them $480 for charges for their services that we won't be using!!! Three Direct TV Reps refused to give me a valid email address for Direct TV where I could file my Complaints with them and have a record of my complaints. Yet Direct TV records almost every converation. Their whole system is built around first lying about the product they will provide to induce people to let them install their equipment, then not allowing people to read the "Equipment Lease Contract" before they install the equipment, then building a one sided case for collecting their $480 cancellation charge if you try to cancel. AFTER their equipment is installed and before you can even find out bfy trying their product they send you an email which they state is the Equipment Lease Agreement. It's all set up and timed so that they can try to enforce a written Equipment Lease Contract which they hide in a folder and don't show you before they install their equipment. Bottom line, they lied in their sales pitch about the progaming the would provide and the equipment they installed contantly malfuntions. We've had six of their technicians come out and half the time we hav 2 or our 4 TV's not working.
