We bought a new pool last year, had it installed by professionals, and discovered it started leaking in August of this year (from the liner through the exterior wall). The installers suggested we may be using too many chemicals, but actually we used LESS than the recommended amount. The manufacturer claims that their galvanized steel wall doesn't rust, therefore there should not be a hole in a new pool wall, and the seller (Arthurs Pools) suggests that sand got trapped between the liner and the pool wall, causing the leaks. We purchased, at extra cost, a permanent pool coving which the manufacturer recommends to "prevent washout and corrosion." They advertise a 25-year warranty and are not honoring it. We had nothing to do with the 3 holes/leaks which developed. I have photos to prove it.
