Highway 29 Tires and Batteries
Crooked Mechanic

In December I took my 2002 Kia Sportage to Don Turner the owner of HIghway 29 Tires and Batteries to install a motor. I paid him $300 to begin working on my vehicle. He called me within a few days to tell me that my motor was indeed gone and I would need a new motor. Because it was Christmas time I explained that I didn't have the remaining $718.18 to buy another motor. He said I could bring the remaining balance in February. Febraury 3 I gave Mr. Turner $718.18 to install a motor. A week after Mr. Turner was paid in full, I called and asked about the results of my vehicle he said he was working on it and would call me when it was ready for pick up. About a month later, he said my vehicle needed a wiring harness and the part was difficult to locate. He assured me that he would be able to get the part and fix my jeep. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into days, and still no jeep. July comes and my aunt informs me that she doesn't see my vehicle at his shop and maybe I need to give him a call to find out what the status is on my jeep. I call Mr. Turner and he tells me that he sent my jeep to a dealership in order for them to install the wiring harness. I asked him why he didn't inform me of this and he responded that he might have mentioned it to my ex-boyfriend! He went on to say that all he had to do at this point was pick up my jeep from the dealership connect the wires and I could come pick it up. Several days later with no word from Mr. Turner I called him again to see if my jeep was ready and he said he wsa working on it. The next day I dropped by his shop to find out that he had not even went and picked up my jeep. I told him I was going to file a police report. The next day he called me and told me he had my vehicle, I went to his shop and discovered an AUCTION SIGN posted on the upper left hand side of my rear window! Mr. Turner raised the hood, and I find I only have half a motor in my jeep! I am stunned at this point, I asked Mr. Turner about the auction sign and he jokingly replied he thought I put the sign on there. Keep in mind that my vehicle has been in his possesion from November through July. I went directly to the sheriff's office in Hart County and filed a report. That experience in itself was stressful. Judge Tony Welborn had Mr. Turner and myself come into his chamber for an informal civil hearing. Mr. Turner signed a written agreement to refund my $1,018.18 and return my vehicle to my aunt's address within seven days. The deadline comes and goes and Mr. Turner does not honor our agreement. I went back to the sheriff's departement and Detective Eric Cutshall says I only have a civil case against Mr. Turner, no criminal charges could be brought against him. Judge Tony Welborn says the same thing and I'm left feeling aggravated and frustrated. I went and talked to the Assistant District Attorney in Hartwell, Georgia and explained my situation. She immediately had a warrant issued for Mr. Tuner for theft of a vehicle and theft by conversion. All of a suuden the same dtective who had just tole me I had no criminal case called me in to file a written statement (go figure). Detective Eric Cutshall says he was unaware of the evidence against Mr. Turner. Several days passed and Mr / Turner had no yet been arrested. Once again I called the assistant DA, half an hour later I got a call from the sheriff's office saying Mr. Tuner had indeed been arrested. I was informed that Mr. Turner is currently under probation, so I called his PO officer and told him of Mr. Turner's arrest. At Mr. Turner's probation hearing, his lawyer Daniel Moore of Hicks and Moore Law Office, gave me his word Mr. Turner would have my money and my vehicle to me by the end of the week. My vehicle was brought to my aunt's home late Friday evening but I still have not been reimbursed for the money I gave Mr. Turner. I have tried unsuccessfully to contact his attorney, Daniel Moore, but he will not return my call. I guess like Mr. Turner his lawyer isn't a man of his word either.
