Had Verizon DSL installed and was told that the installation was done via a 3rd party called My Tech Help. The cost for the service was 9.99 per month recurring. I went ahead and although ridiculous, accepted this requirement and paid the first month. I called to cancel the service less then 30 days later and was on the phone with the rep for more then 15 minutes. After trying to tell me that the service was to protect me from problems, I insisted it be cancelled. Of course, the rep told me I would be charged for the next month even though I cancelled the service and that there was nothing that could be done! I asked her so... I am paying 9.99 for absolutely nothing; the service was cancelled - essentially, I just gave over the 10 bucks for no service whatsoever!
