Billing nightmare

I had Verizon Fios for 11 days; only 9 of which it actually worked. I had problems from day one. The first problem was we did not receive what we were promised. They wanted to charge us $75 more for what we asked for and what we were promised upon agreeing to service. It took 8 days to resolve that, with them finding that we were indeed in the right. Then, we had to get our AC unit in our apartment replaced. The Verizon box was installed in that utility closet and as a result the AC tech had to move the box. He told us to call Verizon. We explained it to Verizon and they were very reluctant to even send anyone over to look at it. They told us it would be $120 an hour for someone to fix it! We called our apartment complex manager and told them what happened. They called their rep at verizon and he never got back to them or us. We called Verizon and they sent someone over two days later.By then we made the decision to cancel our service with them. I was told during the initial sales call that I would not be billed if I cancelled service within 30 days. I am not sitting with a bill for $223.23. They won't credit me or work with me in any way. I should NOT have to pay this bill! Their customer service was horrible from day one and I was promised I would not have to pay if I cancelled within 30 days. I don't want to ruin my credit but I cannot in good conscience pay them without exhausting all other possibilities. Thank you for whatever help you can give me in resolving this matter.
