At 8:30 tonight I went to my local Target (Balboa, San Diego) for shampoo. I saw a man brushing his son's tangled and matted hair with a brush from the display of hairbrushes, and his daughter brushing her similarly unkempt hair with another brush from the display. I quietly stated that I hoped that she was going to Buy the hairbrush she was using and she answered, emphatically, "No!". Her father sneered loudly that it was none of my business. I replied that it certainly was, for many nasty things can be transmitted from a human head, when he suddenly LUNGED AT ME, pressed his face up to mine and loudly stated that this was MY problem. When he lunged at me I reflexively shoved him back. Then I want to find a manager.
When she arrived, the "manager" might have been 19. She had already spoken with the father. She was not concerned that this unkempt family of five were using hair brushes and returning them to the shelf. She was only concerned that I was speaking, loudly at this point, about the public health issue, and that I had touched the man (when he lunged at me). I explained that it was reflexive, but she was going to call the police and did, in fact page a security guard to 'escort' me out of the store. Meanwhile the scuzzy family sauntered by, had a good laugh at me and left the store without purchasing a thing.
