Consumer Report

I was looking to buy a car and was browsing on ksl.com. I found a car that I just loved and emailed the seller. The email I got back was from [email protected] saying he was stationed at Grand Forks Air base in ND and needed to sell the car quickly as he was being deployed to Afganistan. He said he was using eBay's Vehicle Purchase Protection program and that I would have to submit buyer name and shipping address. After that, it would be 3-4 working days and they would ship the car title to me. If I accept the car, they give him the money. If I don't accept the car, they ship the car back to him (no cost to me). My ex-husband always helps me to handle these things and he said it was too good to be true. I started looking at ksl's buyer beware information. It talked about generic emails, which it did look/sound like a form letter. Even when I responded being a little chatty and making reference to friends and family I have serving I got no response or acknowledgement whatsoever. It talked about seller being out of the country, he is only out of state supposedly. Also, if the money is supposed to be submitted online and the item shipped. All of these applied and came up as red flags. It only took looking on the Air Force home page for the base he mentioned to see they have no impending deployments and then to google the name and see what I have to back off of that pursuit. I'm so thankful for my ex. I hope others see this in time as I have and it saves them money and heartache. I pray the others who have been scammed are able to get their money back.
