I recently moved in with my roommates after his girlfriend moved out and turned off the power. But when i heard about her trying to have the power turned off in November, i had called SMUD to get it put into my name so it would be fine by the time i moved in offically on February 1. SMUD had asked me for a lease agreement which i could not provide at the time, but the lady whos name the power was in before me didn't need to show them nothing to get the power in her name. So then i had a few deaths in the family so i wasn't worried about the power seeing how it was still on in her name.
So after i move in the power goes off. I called SMUD and asked if the power can be acativated into my name. I gave them all my info and was put on hold for a long time. And then i get hung up on so i called back and the continued to tell me that my request has been sent to the research department! Well i have 2 small children on their way home anytime from school at this point but there is nothing they can do about the power till the next day! So in the morning i call SMUD back and they tell me that i need to show them my rental agreement and bring it to their office so i gather up all the paperwork and take it down there. Then they tell me they still need to research some more regarding getting power to my house because my roommates names are on the lease along with my name stating the dates we all moved into or out of the house.
So i am so irratated now and i go home to my no power house. Later on that same day i call her back and she then tells me that since my roommates are on the lease agreement i would need to come up with 900 dollars in order to get my power turned on in my name. Now why in the world are they trying to make me pay for my roommates past due bills from a totally different previous address! And as for the lady whos name the SMUD was in had told me she transfered her SMUD to her new house she just bought. So why didn't her past due bills follow her to her new residence? As of today i still have no power and a debt to pay that is not mine!
