Quick PC Help (Streetwize Marketeer)
Consumer Report

Contacted me November. A Female phoned me stating that she represented a company who were agents for all the internet providers and were aware that we were having problems with our internet service (which we were) such as running slow and freezing up. She asked if i was by my computer and took me through a couple of web pages and asked me to click on an icon, before i knew it they were inside my computer. A male took over explaining that we had lots of virusus causing the problems, highlighting lots of files. They would eliminate them and install anti virus software and clean my computer up making it run faster for a fee of £144. Reluctlantly i provided my card details and the fee had now risen frm £144 to £200 and he explained that this was VAT and other taxes (such as what?). I now smelled a rat and said no i wasnt going to proceed so he relented & said then we will do it £144. This made me more curious. After taking card details he explained that his engineer would resolve my problems and call me once he had completed his task which he did. I was left with 3 icons on my pc. After giving it some thought i contacted my bank who said that no funds had been taken so i explained what had happened & my bank immediatley cancelled my cards. Nothing happened for several days and then i recieved a call from the male asking if everything was ok & if i was happy. Strange that he did not mention my payment & never asked for it which made me more curious. I thought that this is definitely a scam. A week ago out of the blue i recieve a call from the same male requesting a payment. I stalled him and asked for a bill which he said he would email. He hasnt done so yet although i recieved an email welcoming me to Quick PC Help asking me to contact them to make payment. He has phoned several evenings now & we havnt answered the phone. If this was a genuine company surely they be making more stringent methods to get their money so i am somewhat bemused by the situation. I naturally did not use my computer and took it to an engineer to have it cleaned up as i suspected that they could have put anything in it to monitor and find my passwords and card details etc. That cost me money and the guy cleaned it up that well he also lost my 7 years of business files which has been a nightware trying to retrieve them.
