My mortgage got behind when GMAC failed to send my insurance premium to my insurance company. My insurance company cancelled my policy and GMAC began charging me an additional 300.00 monthly. GMAC would not accept fault causing my payments to get further behind. I then contacted them to do a modification and advised them that my husband went missing after returning from IRAQ and I no longer had his income. The company then advised me a modification could be complaint once I provided court documentation that he was missing and the court awarded me title and ownership of the property.
This went on for several years, each time they would start the process over and ask for more documentation. Each time they would advise me not to make the payments because they would be put at the end of the loan. Finally, GMAC says the documentation is not acceptable, the same documentation they requested. They said they were no longer willing to work with me and that I needed to pay approximately 10,000.00 in a 4 month period and a modification was not an option. My home went into foreclosure and I was forced to file bankrupt in order to keep my property. I did everything they ask me to do.in fact, i was originally on a few payments behind until they continued to advise me to stop making the payments. This has completely destroyed my life and my chances for a new beginning. I paid my bills, maybe a little late due to the loss of my husbands income. But I made an honest effort to make this right.
