A Dishonest Company - Initial agreement information lacking

When I first signed up for DirecTV, I was told by the salesman that after my first year rebates expired, I would be able to get additional rebates for the second 12 months. Every time I called them for something, I was always assured that this was the case at the end of my first year.

I had a dispute with them in January. I asked them when my rebates expired and when I could acquire new ones. They told me that I had until March or April before my rebates expired, since I had been disconnected from them for about 3 months due to a leave of absence.

Today, 2/18, I had another dispute with them about my bill (they have one of the most convoluted and confusing billing statements I have ever seen). The bill had dramatically jumped because no rebates were applied. I was told that my rebates had expired and that there was no such thing as rebates for an additional 12 months because if they did that, they wouldn't be in business. Both my wife and I inquired specifically when we joined about rebates for the second year, and we were both told that those would be available. But NOW we are told that there never was such a thing. Just last month, I was told the exact opposite by them.

As I read numerous complaints about DirecTV, I see things like this repeated over and over. It is amazing that this company is so brazen and insistent in its contradictions to what they have been telling people. I do not believe anything they say anymore, and this is not good for a company to get this reputation.

If anyone reads this, you will do well to check Charter communications, with whom I have always had good relations and seems to be very concerned about their image and customer service. DirecTV is not. I don't know if Dish Network is any better, but you had better save yourself some anger and frustration and NOT use DirecTV.
