Unjust Charges

I left Spain in closing verbally my account with BS at the time with 50 euro credit. I assumed they would send this to me, but no. Over the past 4 years I have received regular statements, adding a few euro 'charges' each time. I have repeatedly written to my branch, to the address on the statement and even the source address on the envelopes to point out that the account is closed (I have copies).

At no time have I had a reply or even an acknowledgment, just another statement, adding more euros. I have had no service from them, have not used the account at all in that time, nor have I been to Spain. Santander UK refuse to help, despite having earlier promised to do just that. I recently received a demand from a UK debt collector for 306 euro of 'charges.' What can I do with a bank which refuses to communicate? I have no intention of paying.
