Cyber Astro
Consumer Report

Note: cyberastro is company listed on my credit card statement.
My wife took a phone call purpurting to be from Windows support.
She asked them for some proof of this and they showed her a copy from the government company register of their registration details (under that department's letterhead) then a copy of the ASIC (Australian Securities Industry) page showing the Microsoft company details (also under their letterhead). My wife was convinced of their authenticity. They then asked her to click the start button (we are using Windows XP) then click 'run' and type 'prefetch virus' - this of course brings up the prefetch file and the Indian she was speaking to said all those listed were viruses. He then asked her to go to ammyy.com and click a button which then gave the caller remote access to our computer.
Following more spruiking she then signed up for 2 years of "protection" and gave them our credit card details.
When i learnt of what had transpired I immediately contacted my
banks and stopped internet access to my accounts. I also stopped access to my credit card. The following Friday I arranged for a qualified technician to scan my computer - luckily he found nothing
However just to be sure I'm leaving my Internet Banking blocks on for a short while just in case (one of my banks will report to me if anyone tries to transfer any funds).
