I had my Walmart credit card somewhat under control. I did have a balance of about 2500 dollars. They kept sending me magic checks. These checks offered a one time purchase (using the card) that would have a really low rate on that purchase. I was hesitant, but my wife at the time talked me into using 2 of those checks.
Here's the scam. What the Walmart Discover Card doesn't tell you is that all future payments go towards paying off the amounts with the cheaper rates first. My payments barely increased while those 2 "checks" were on my account, thanks to the low interest, but once those were paid off, I found myself with double the monthly payments of before using those checks.interest on the original amount kept building and building while I was working on the amounts with cheaper interest.
Bottom Line: My credit card tricked me into basically maxing out my credit card and now I'm paying over 200 a month, with only about 70$ going towards principal.
If you get those "sweet" offers of low interest on a purchase from Walmart Discover, don't do it. One last note, the damages amount is just a guess because their scam keeps on digging into my pocket book every month.: (
