American Honda Financial Corp
Lying, Cut-throat Thieves

My very sick elderly mom purchased a new 2008 Honda Accord EXVL that was financed through American Honda Financial Corp. The main reason she purchased this car was that she needed reliable transportation to and from dialysis and other medical treatment. I, her daughter, was her driver & caregiver. She also was counting on me having reliable transportation in the event something happened to her since I gave up my car when I began taking care of her. Anyway... The car was purchased in Aug. 2008... My mom passed away in Nov. 2009. I found out that American Honda had denied her Credit, Life, Disability Insurance to protect her investment... They said that it was their decision. Now, if an elderly person can qualify for a substantial loan (over $20,000) to purchase a vehicle, they should also be given the option to buy the insurance to protect their investment... This is age discrimination as well as some type of predatory lending and had I known about this, I would have talked her out of purchasing this vehicle... However, the story gets even better...

After my mom passed away, thinking I was doing the right thing, I sent the death certificate into American Honda... I talked to some girl at the company who told me that I had the option to try to keep the car or I could turn it in... She said they would "work with me on the payments" and all they needed was my contact information such as address, phone, etc., which I gave her. I then went to get the car insured in my name. This was a problem since the car was not titled in my name. My local DMV, etc. Gave me the proper forms to send to American Honda for them to fill out, which would have fixed this problem. I sent them to American Honda around the end of Nov./beginning of Dec. 2009... I never heard a word back from them until January 28. Some rude man was screaming at me telling me they had to have the "unit" back. I politely explained to him the conversation that I previously had with the girl at American Honda Corp. When my mom first passed away... I also explained to him that I had children that I was responsible for getting to school each morning... You see, they had already sent a truck out to pick the car up... I refused. This idiot, Peter I believe was his name, kept threatening me telling me that they were going to arrest me if I did not cooperate, etc... He was a very loud, very obnoxious bully! He finally put me through to their legal department who told me that it is American Honda Finance Corps. Policy that if there is a death that the "estate has to pay the lien in full or they have to have the "unit" back"... Seeing how their was no money in the estate and I did not have $20,000, I agreed to a time for them to pick up the "unit" Now, how cut throat was that? They did not follow through with anything they said they were going to do, not to mention they left me in a lynch with getting my children to school and to seek medical help for my own health, which I had taken a serious turn for the worse since I had inadvertently ignored it while taking care of my mom... Honda/American Honda claims to care about their customers... They do not care for anything or anyone except the almighty dollar. I had been a faithful Honda customer for many years. I have owned and/or rented at least seven or eight Hondas over the years; however, this incident has caused me to despise Honda and everything associated with it. I was going to pursue a lawsuit against them, but I ended up being very sick and was admitted to IMCU at the hospital for a while. I am still recuperating and fighting this illness, but I wanted others to know about this incident so they could be aware of how cut-throat Honda really is... I have been without a car for over two years now... I have managed to get my children to school and to local medical appointments; however, I now have to travel over 100 mile one-way for treatment, which is difficult to do. I am in the process of finding a vehicle... I can assure you... It will not be a Honda... Now or ever... I do not know if I posted this on the right site, but I will continue to post it everywhere I can to get the word out about Honda... They are a bunch of lying, cut-throat thieves who have bad business practices/ethics…
