Providence By Hometown America
Homeowner Harrassment

We had our driveway painted to match the trim on our home. We immediately received letters from Mr. Stanz and the Exterior Modification Committee to repaint the driveway as the color we chose was not acceptable. One week later, we received a second letter from Mr. Stanz and the committee advising us that if we did not submit a new color for repainting that was acceptable to the committee they would begin eviction proceedings.

We then called and requested to meet with Mr. Stanz. At the meeting, Mr. Stanz was not interested in why we painted our driveway and was adament that we repaint immediately or he would have the legal department begin eviction proceedings against us. We tried to explain that the driveway color matched the trim on the house, which is what many other residents in the park have done. He did not care, but again insisted we repaint and in a color that is acceptable. (Note: no one but the committee knows what colors are acceptable. It is merely at the whim of said committee).

We then drew up a petition and solicited our neighbors on whether they felt we should be evicted because of the color of our driveway. We amassed 108 names of neighbors who do not think we should be evicted, and, many praised the color and the new look and how we had improved a home that had been neglected for three years. We then, submitted a request to approve our color (slightly modified) to the committee along with the 108 names. The committee denied our color and again instructed us to choose a more acceptable color. WHAT IS AN ACCEPTABLE COLOR?

In our meeting with Mr. Stanz we mentioned how expensive the painting of the driveway had been and we did not have the money to repaint it another color. Again, Mr. Stanz did not care, but instructed us to repaint it in an acceptable color.
