CareCredit GE MoneyBank
Be Careful review

This card is a good option if you don't have any other credit cards. Beware the interest rate is very high after the no interest promotional period. Stay on top of every bill they send and read all fine print. We are paying dearly for this mistake. My husband went to the dentist for the first time in several years in 08. His back teeth were in bad shape. The dentist gave an estimate of $2000 after insurance. They suggested CareCredit and sent the paperwork to CareCredit and got instant approval up to $3000. We began making the monthly payments and tried very hard to pay a lot more then the minimum. We ended up having only 6 months of no interest though, not 12 months like originally told. We were never late during that time either. Needless to say we didn't get the whole balance paid off in the 6 months time and were charged almost 25 percent interest.

Then my husband had to go back to the dentist for another tooth issue in 09. The dentist gave an estimate of $300 after insurance and we wanted to pay it ourselves NOT on CareCredit. The dentist instead ended up applying $700 to the CareCredit account instead. This has caused so much stress and we can't get the money taken off again even when we told the dentist we would pay them the $700.

I realize it wasn't CareCredits fault the dentist didn't listen. However, the added balance at the 25 percent interest made our payments even higher. We were late the one month because we didn't realize the due date changed. The following bill we received said our interest rate is 29.99 percent now. Plus, they stuck on the $40 late fee. It has all basically snowballed and we can't stay ahead of them. Last week we received a letter from a collection agency stating we have to pay them now. So now we really don't know what to do. This could affect my husbands job since he has to have almost perfect credit, which he had before CareCredit. Yes it was our fault for not paying the original balance off in time and we take responsibility for that. We owe way more then the original amount now.

The collection agency says we owe $3085. The balance on our last CareCredit bill was $1600. They were never any help with anything. The CareCredit customer service people always made us feel like crap. Very condescending in my opinion. They were also calling my husbands job many times a day which is not allowed where he works. We don't even know how they got his number to begin with. We never thought it would take us this long to pay off the bills from almost 2 years ago. So please look at other options for credit first unless you ABSOLUTELY know you can pay the balance off in time. Do NOT pay late even just 1 time. READ, READ, READ your statements. This has taught us a painful lesson and I hope someone else doesn't make this mistake. We are stuck and don't know how to get out from under this company.
