I received a call about a credit card I apparently applied for. They said I was going to get a credit line of $5000, some "get out of debt" software and $250 cash. I asked lots a questions because it sounded fishy. They spoke with stong accents and very fast, so I was feeling uncomfortable. I should have just hung up.
They talked me into giving them my checking account routing number and account number so they could put $250 into my account to cover their fees. First the fees were $189, then they went to $219. They kept telling me I was still going to come out ahead and end up with a credit card because I was "pre-approved".
I work for a credit card issuer, and I know that pre-approved doesn't mean you will get the card... It just means they will take your application!
I canceled the whole thing and told them they had better not take money from my account because I never gave final approval to do so. If they try to take money out of my account, I will dispute it and fight to the end to see that justice is done.
I wish I had logged onto the Internet to see the other people's comments before I wasted so much of my time talking to them.
