First of all having lost a minimum wage paying job, I took my complaint to the Judge to seek a reduction in the amount of child support that I have to pay, at the end of the hearing the Judge had actually RAISED my obligation, based on IMAGINARY income figures. I am now collecting unemployment and the county has attached my wages, I now receive less than 50.00 per week, they have been so kind as to ALLOW me that much of my minimal income. I have studied the law myself and spoken to attorneys, {It is obvious with this kind of income I am not able to secure legal representation.}and I have found that individuals earning less than the federal poverty level ARE NOT, and for obvious reasons, SHOULD NOT be forced to pay child support. Further, the recipient of over 50 percent of my poverty level income, the child's mother holds a nursing position, making nearly 15.00 per hour, which is more than the household income when I lived with the child and mother, so, therefore there is no loss whatsoever in the amount of income from then til now. Therefore no custody order should be entered. But the Judge still sees fit to uphold an order that I have challenged, and he has shown that he is unwilling or unable to enforce the laws governing child support in his court room. Please note the fact that as I have no other income, and my unemployment income is LESS THAN my support obligation, I am falling into arrears at a very rapid rate, and I have absolutely no way to pay it. This means that I will be jailed for the crime of being poor. This system should be shut down and tried as a corrupt organization, this is extortion and exploitation of the poor, but NOBODY WILL DO ANYTHING.
